January: Update Letter
This is an update to the letter that I wrote in November to let everyone know what was going on with the museum. The letter was never sent, because, things were changing at such a rapid pace, that the information would have been old by the time you received it. With this update, you have the latest information that is available.
The museum has ten new board members, they are: Alexa DeCristafano, Charles and Lynn Haycock, Sam and Joan Mastrogiacomo, Jack and Priscilla Northrup, Claudia Putney, Bernabe Romo and Ed Safford. Jack Northrup will serve as Treasurer for the year, and Joan Mastrogiacomo will serve as Secretary. Elections took place at our Board Meeting on December 15, 2011.
A day was planned to move all the items that belonged to the museum, but the arrangements could not be agreed upon by American Aero, so the items were moved to the barn at my house. Because the moving process was difficult, we had a barn workday on December 29th. Claudia, Sam, Joan, Ed, Lexi, Bernabe, Trey and I worked in the barn from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. We got the entire contents of the museum stored in the proper facilities, either climate-controlled or not. Everything is safely stored until we have a building to house our many items. It was a hard day, but well worth it and we all really enjoyed the outcome.
Timeless Wings and Wheels has submitted a proposal to Rhonda Walker, Airport Manager, for the renovation of the CAP building at the New Smyrna Airport. The proposal was submitted on December 16th. We are still waiting to hear from Rhonda on what our next step will be. We also, are working with Mike Smyser in a possible partnership on a building. Mike attended our December Old Soldier’s Meeting and presented his ideas to the guys. Then we took a field trip to his hangar at the front of the airport. This plan is being worked on continuously and hopefully it will be a wonderful fit for both the museum and Mike.
The January Board Meeting will be at Ruthy’s Restaurant on January 10th at 9:00 a.m. Old Soldier’s Club will be meeting at my house, 1061 Bay Drive, on January 21st. We then will be taking a field trip to Charles and Lynn’s house for a Mexican breakfast and to view their museum, which is in their house. The new website should be up and running soon, Lexi is the mastermind of that and will have us updated via the web soon.
If anyone has any questions or would like to talk about any museum issues, please do not hesitate to give me a call on my cell phone or home phone. My cell is 386-314-4499 and my home is 386-427-7052. I hope everyone is doing well and look forward to seeing and hearing from all of you.
